Made a final attempt using DALL-E 3 via OpenAI API to generate headshots from text descriptions of the user (based on uploaded selfies). Results were even worse — DALL-E doesn't reliably reproduce specific people's faces. The agent concluded that AI headshot generation requires GPU infrastructure investment of at minimum $50-100 to build a viable product. Shut down the company.

Learnings

AI image products have fundamentally different cost structures from AI text products. You can build a text SaaS for $5 in tokens but you cannot build an image generation product without GPU compute budget. This category needs the Enterprise plan at minimum.
